Camping Cabopino, Marbella

I cannot believe I did it – it’s taken my husband 22 years to convince me to camp and I finally agreed and have to say, thoroughly enjoyed it!! I’ve been on many self catering holidays but never under canvas!
We picked up a bargain tent in Alcampo in La Canada for €45. Not seen them that cheap anywhere else or in Alcampo since, for that matter, so think it was a case of right place, right time.
We decided to go with my friend (who was also a virgin camper!) and her family. We had been away together before and all got on fine. For our first trip we chose Cabopino camp site, which is just outside Marbella. My thinking was, if I really hated it, I could be home in half an hour!! We arrived about 6.30 Friday evening, registered at reception and then set about making camp – well, hubby did – putting up a tent is not one of my talents – unless it’s a pop-up! By 9pm, both tents were up, beds inflated and made, lanterns installed, and most importantly, beer chilled and sausages cooking!!
Next morning, we were up bright and early, more thanks to the pigeons “cooing” than anything else! Daughters went off to do pilates, sons went to play football and we cooked a “full English”. Have to say, something different about cooking in the open air, even washing up was fun!!!
The absolute best thing about this campsite is the organised activities which are all free!! After Pilates, kids did Archery, then rock climbing on the climbing wall which is attached to a wire bridge and Tibetan bridge, then water polo, then evening disco – all in a day. Every activity was fully supervised by trained instructors. We hardly saw the kids all day!!

Sunday was yoga, orienteering, roller blading and water polo. As well as all this, there are 2 swimming pools (one heated) on the site. Check out is usually 12.00 but for an extra €10, you can stay up to 7pm which meant we also got all day Sunday there.

I really recommend this campsite, it felt that we had had a little holiday and we didn’t feel like we were only 30 minutes from home!
